NORTHERN REGIONAL MINISTER DONATES GH¢10,000.00 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NATIONAL CATHEDRAL

The Northern Regional Minister Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu on behalf of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council has donated GH¢10,000.00 for the construction of the National Cathedral of Ghana.
The donation was made during the unveiling of a fundraising strategy in the Northern region to raise funds to support the establishment of the National Cathedral.
Other donations were received from the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives in the Northern Region amounting to GH¢20,000.00, as well as an amount of GH¢10,000.00 donation received from the Chief of Sagnarigu, Naa Yakubu Abdulai on behalf of the Overlord of Dagbon.
Hon. Shaibu in his address said, the national cathedral, aside from its spiritual incline, will work towards the development of our country and improving the quality of lives of our people. “Government and religious institutions complement each other to produce a complete and sound society.
“As a national monument, the Cathedral will house impressive chapels and baptistery, a 500-seat main auditorium, expandable to seat 20,000 seats for national events and celebrations. It will include, among others, a grand central hall, a music school and will house Africa’s first-ever Bible Museum, Biblical Garden, and documentation center.
“The National Cathedral Project will also bequeath to the country a gracious national park for all Ghanaians, bring new skills, technology and jobs to the country, and will act as a beacon to national, regional, and international tourists,” he added.
He stressed the President, Nana Akuffo Addo proposal of a framework of partnership between the State and the Ghanaian Christian community both at home and in the Diaspora to raise funds for the construction of the National Cathedral.
The Chief of Sagnarigu, Naa Yakubu Abdulai who chaired the program on behalf of the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II urged the people of the Northern Region to set aside their religious differences and contribute their quota towards the success of the project.
Notably, on the 6th of March, 2017, the President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut-sod for the Construction of the National Cathedral.
The Executive Director of the project, Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah mentioned that, the sod cutting will pave-way to embark on National fundraising to be able to complete and commission the project on 6th March 2024.
According to him, “the National Cathedral is a blessing to the people of Ghana and will serve as a national interdenominational facility for prayer and worship, a center of learning, and a national point of convergence.”
He added that, the Cathedral will give space for the people of Ghana to organize and host big conferences, public lectures, symposia, workshops, seminars, and gospel concerts
