The Northern Regional Minister, Hon Shani Alhassan Shaibu received the Executive Director, Bryan Cox of Youth Challenge International (YCI).
The purpose of the meeting was to brief the Minister on the HerStart project funded by Global Affairs Canada in Northern Region.
YCI is a global youth development organization that promotes youth innovation to drive positive change.
The organization has been operating in Ghana for almost 20 years, thus contributing to youth livelihood empowerment and building capacities for local organizations sustainability.
According to Mr. Bryan, YCI’s programs are designed to meet the needs of youth affected by poverty.
“HerStart project aims at building an enabling environment for social innovation and women social enterprise development, while increasing awareness and support for social ventures,” he added.
The Project Lead, Edmond Wisdom Quansah, said 930 young men and women have been trained on entrepreneurship such as Hairdressing, Dressmaking, Carpentering, as well as how to set up their own businesses.
He hinted that the HerStart project is benefiting 3000 young women in the North through training, and would support them with seed funding to start their businesses.
The Northern regional Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the Executive Director of YCI
and commended the organization for the good works that they are doing by putting smiles on the faces of the youth in the county.
He noted that the initiative is in line with the government and his excellency Nana Akuffo Addo’s commitment to ending unemployment in the country.
“The initiative has reduced unemployment rates in the country, as the youth are been equipped with the necessary skills that they can utilize to earn a living,” he added.
He welcomed the activities of the organization to the region and therefore, called on them not to hesitate to seek a collaborative effort to achieve their goals.
