NORTHERN REGIONAL MINISTER URGES YOUNG PEOPLE TO VENTURE INTO ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu at the graduation ceremony of the MasterCard Foundation, Young Africa Work Project on Wednesday, 13 April, 2022 urged young people to venture into entrepreneurship.
The project forms part of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), MasterCard Foundation initiative, targeted at creating 39000 sustainable jobs among young people in Ghana.
Hon. Shaibu presented start-up kits to 15 young men and women in the region to support them start their businesses.
The start-up kits include; Gas Oven and accessories, a sewing machine and accessories, a Hairdryer and accessories, electrical tools and a leather works machine.
He advised them to use the start-up kits more productively to earn more so that they can take good care of themselves and their families.
He admonished young men and women in the region to venture into entrepreneurship rather than chasing for white-collar jobs.

According to the Regional Manager of Ghana Enterprises Agency, Matthew Azoya, the MasterCard Young Africa Works project started in the third (3rd) quarter of 2020 with sensitization activities at Schools, Churches, mosques, Trade Associations, Market squares, etc.
He revealed that, a total of Six (6) MMDAs in the Northern region have so far implemented the MasterCard Foundation Young Africa Works Project. Three (3) MMDAs; Tamale metro, Sagnarigu, and Yendi started implementation in 2020, and the remaining three MMDAs; Gushegu, Savelugu and Kpandai started implementation in 2021.
As of December 2021, 1356, young people have been trained and 120 mentored, through the Business Advisory Centres (BACs) in the Northern Region on Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship (ICE) and MSME Business Acceleration (MBA).
He stated that, through the project, the Northern region has facilitated the certification of more than 65 MSMEs to acquire FDA certification for their products, this has improved their access to markets even outside the region and country.
โ€œThis facilitation is still ongoing, and more beneficiaries are being assisted to package their products for FDA Certification. The project is also facilitating Registrar Generals Department Business certification for beneficiaries. 60 beneficiaries have so far been supported with RGD Certification,โ€™โ€™ he added.
