The council meeting, which happens periodically to review the progress of the various activities, projects, and programs implemented in the region, this year, deliberated on issues of peace and security, education, health, roads, etc.

He stated that, the Ministry of Information in the third quarter of this year organized press briefings for all the sixteen regions to showcase the levels of developmental progress in their various regions in key government initiatives.

At the press briefing, he harnessed the opportunity to highlight the efforts of Government towards the development of the region in the areas of Roads, Heath, One District, One Factory (1D1F) and Government Special Initiatives.

The press briefing also offered an opportunity for him to showcase the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region as well as highlight the investment and developmental potentials in a bid to attract needed investments from both domestic and foreign investors.

Hon. Shaibu said that, during the year, the various security agencies in the region demonstrated dedication, commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their duties which has contributed to the maintenance of law and order.

โ€œAnd of course, we cannot also overlook the immense cooperation and support of our Traditional Rulers and various religious leaders to this achievement. The response of our security agencies especially in Tamale, contributed to dealing with several vices and crimes in the Northern Region” he stated

“The continuous police visibility in town and traffic intersections has proved effective and, we therefore expect the cooperation and support of the entire citizenry to maintain law and order in the region especially, during this festive season,โ€ he added.

Following the release of the 2022 WASSCE results for the Senior High Schools. He urged stakeholders to take keen interest to monitor the trends of performance in the various subject areas as well as, the general performance to enable us proffer workable solutions to improve upon educational performance and standards in the region.

At the various MMDAs level, he urged the MMDCEs to also take interest and monitor the performance with their various Directors of Education.

“As part of measures by Government to strengthen the Health Sector and make health care delivery more accessible to citizens, the Northern Region this year saw the commencement of the construction of eight (8) new hospitals across eight Districts and Municipalities under Governmentโ€™s Agenda111 Flagship Programme. Mion, Wulensi, Kpandai, Saboba, Kumbungu, Nanton, Savelugu and Sagnarigu are the beneficiary Assemblies”, he stated.

He added that, just two days ago, he on behalf of the government of Ghana distributed tricycle ambulances to all the MMDAs to improve upon health care delivery and the transportation needs of CHPS compounds at the district levels.

โ€œEach MMDA in the region was handed over two (2) of the tri-cycle ambulances,โ€ he said.

According to Hon. Shaibu, this year has been very good to the people of Northern region as numerous road asphalting and upgrading took place.

โ€œThe long-awaited Tamale Interchange was also completed and officially commissioned by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana to ease traffic within the Central Business District (CBD) of the Metropolis earlier this year,โ€ he said.

He added that, His Excellency the President of the Republic this year, cut sod for the construction of the Tamale-Yendi-Tatale road to ease the transportation challenges faced by the people and boost the economies of the MMDAs in the Eastern Corridors of the region, adding that, processes have commenced to secure the necessary approvals for the construction of a southern by-pass from Kumasi road to link the Yendi road.

“As people entrusted with public offices and resources, we should always endeavour to create very conducive atmosphere for the citizens to go about their socio-economic activities devoid of security threats”, he said.

He assured the Council and the good people of the region that, he would ensure the effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation of all Government projects to ensure value for money and that, projects meet required specifications and scheduled time.

He expressed his sincerest appreciation to all Council Members for your support, co-operation and contribution to the Council to realize its goals and objectives towards the achievement of the vision of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic.
