The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, at the 66th Independence Anniversary on the theme “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose” has called for closer collaboration among stakeholders to achieve sustainable peace and development in the Northern Region.

According to him, the dividends of progress and development can only be achieved if we peacefully co-exist to foster social, economic, and political stability, which will help sustain the gains of the asphalting of roads in the Tamale Township, the completion of the Tamale interchange, the commencement of work on the upgrading of Tamale-Yendi-Road, and very soon, the commissioning of the Tamale International Airport, to mention just a few.

He added that peace will also pave the way for interventions that are in the pipeline through the Social Cohesion Project (SOCO)โ€”astroturf, schools, boreholes, toilets, etc.

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure that we guard jealously these investments,” he stressed.

He acknowledged the traditional leadership provided by the Overlord, Ndan Ya Naa Abukari II, and other traditional authorities, who have been supportive of building peace in Dagbon and the region at large.

Hon. Shaibu urged that “despite our diverse socio-economic strata, letโ€™s put aside our differences and create a united front for mother Ghanaโ€™s progress. For we are a nation of one people of diverse identity but connected and bonded by a common purpose.”

He implored everyone to embrace nationalism, patriotism, and sacrifice in their broadest sense for the benefit of national restoration efforts.
