Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu on behalf of Ghana Productive Safety Net, presented 28 motorbikes to the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) of the Northern, Oti, and Savannah Regions.

The beneficiary districts are Karaga, Mion, Zabugu, Saboba, Tatali-Sanguli, Nanton, Nanumba south, Kpandai and Gushegu in the Northern Region, Central Gonja and East Gonja in the Savannah Region, Karachi West, Karachi East, Karachi Nohumuru, Kadjebi and Nkwanta in the Oti Region.

The initiative forms part of Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 supported by the World Bank, and implemented by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development (MLGDRD) and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP).

The motorbikes will aid in the effective monitoring and supervision of project-related activities to guarantee the best outcomes and ensure there is enhanced productivity and welfare among the poor throughout the country.

Hon. Shaibu appealed to all to reciprocate the innovative approach of the Government of Ghana and the support from the World Bank by committing all the resources provided judiciously in order to reap the expected results.

He cautioned the users of the motorbikes that it should be used mainly for Project-related activities, and be maintained properly in order to prolong their lifespan.

The Zonal Coordinator of the GPSNP, Mr. Amo-Nimoh disclosed that 3 motorbikes each were provided to 15 Municipal and District Assemblies to help in project monitoring and supervision.

โ€œThe supply of additional 28 motorbikes will further enhance implementation, augment the means and help in the upscaling of activities under the face two”, he stated.

He added that, the main actors at the MDAs such as planning officers, engineers, procurement, social welfare/community development, and Agri officers among others were assisted with means of transportation to sub-project sites.
