BIRTHS AND DEATHS REGISTRY

Mandate: Registration of births and deaths Act, 2020 (Act 1027) is to provide for the registration of births, fetal deaths and deaths in the country; the decentralization of the births and deaths registry to improve the collection and collation of statistics for national development and related matters.

Mission : The births and deaths registry exists to provide accurate, reliable and timely information on all births and deaths occurring within Ghana for socio-economic development of the country through their registration and certification.

Vision: The vision of the registry is to attain universal births and deaths registration in Ghana.

Brief details of the activities in 2022

As part of the Vision to attain Universal Births and Deaths, the Region was given a projected annual target of Seventy One Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty Four (71,664) infant births to register for the 2022 year. This figure was than divided into targets for the various districts based on their population and fertility rate. These figures represent both male and female of which Thirty Five Thousand, Four hundred and Ninety Six (35,496) were males and Thirty Six Thousand One Hundred and Sixty Eight (36,168) were females respectively.

In summary, the table above shows that, a total number of Sixty Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty Nine (68,329) infant births were registered of which Thirty Four Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty Six (34,946) represent males and Thirty Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty Three (33,383) represent females. These figures represent 95% of the total infant births registered by the end of 2022.

 In summary, the table above shows that, a total number of Eight Thousand and Ninety Eight (898) deaths were registered of which Five Hundred and twenty five (525) were male and three Hundred and seventy three (373) were female representing the various districts and Regional representative of 4%.

 Aim and objectives of the activities

The aim of the registry is to ensure that all children born in Ghana have a proof of nationality and identity through their registration and certification. The objective of the registry was to register all children born in the various districts and to record 100% of children born in the year 2022.
