REPORT ON 2023 WASSCE

 

 

 

 

 

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This year West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) started smoothly on Monday the 1st July, 2023 and ended on Tuesday the 26th September, 2023.

The Regional Directorate has made monitoring visits to all Senior High Schools in all the sixteen (16) districts covering Twenty Eight (28) Senior High Schools. All the Twenty Eight SHS final year students wrote the WASSCE. The examination was monitored by officers from GES Head Quarters, Regional and District Education Officers.

The Regional Director tasked all District, Municipal and Metropolitan Directors of Education to monitor the WASSCE in their jurisdictions and report to the Regional Directorate a week after the exams. This directive was strictly complied.

The Regional Director and her team jointly monitored the WASSCE with the Northern Regional Minister. They monitored Senior High Schools in Tamale Metropolis, Sagnarigu and Savelugu Municipalities.

The Regional Director constituted monitoring teams involving all teaching staff of the Directorate. The teams were tasked to monitor schools in Tolon and Kumbungu Districts, Sagnarigu and Savelugu Municipalities and Tamale Metropolis.

The Regional Directorate also received Officers from GES Head Quarters who were in the region to monitor the 2023 WASSCE. The Regional Director assigned a number of Regional Officers to support them in their monitoring.  Below are the monitoring results.

 4.0. LOGISTIC

The monitoring team observed that examination papers arrived on time except on few occasions where papers delayed in Kasulyili, Savelugu and Pong-Tamale due to transportation challenges. In all, the general examination atmosphere is very smooth.

5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS/CONCLUSION

  • The exams unit should be supported with resources to conduct sensitization for candidates, teachers and parents to reduce exams malpractices
  • Formation of Regional and District Exams Committees to handle exams related issues.
  • Officers’ call for resources to monitor WASSCE and other related exams not limiting to only Core Subjects.
