PROFILE OF PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
OUR MANDATE
The Public Works Department is the Oldest Department under the ministry of works and housing and was accorded full government recognition as the sole agency with the responsibility for all public works in May, 1886.
OUR VISION
To become a highly efficient Department committed to regulating, setting standards and advising on policies for construction and maintenance of buildings.
OUR MISSION
The Public Works Department exist to effectively manage, construct, maintain and repair public infrastructure and equipment such as Government Bungalows, Office blocks and other properties of Government with the safety of our clients as our primary responsibility.
ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKING WITHIN THE YEAR,2023
Brief Details of the activities.
- Assisted the Northern Regional Co-Ordinating Council to prepare Estimate for the renovation of the NORRIP Guest House – Tamale. (Accomplished)
- Assisted the Northern Regional Co-Ordinating Council to procure the necessary materials to carry out the Renovation works at NORRIP Guest House – Tamale. (Accomplished)
- Assisted the Northern Regional Co-Ordinating Council to Undertake the restorative maintenance works at NORRIP Guest House – Tamale by Direct Labour construction Method (On-going)
- The Public Works Department is executing additional Minor Maintenance/Renovation Works at the Office Building (PWD’s Regional Office and Regional Engineer’s Bungalow) – The principal activities are: Masonry, Plumbing, Carpentry and Painting, including Labeling of offices; the Main Entrance Gate and Security Room etc. (On-going).
- The assistance of the Public Records and Archives Administration Department (PRAAD) was sought to ensure the Establishment of an effective Records Management System, including Training of the Department’s Executive / Clerical Staff to enhance their capacity in offering quality services to users of records. (Substantially Completed).
- A One Day Scheme of Service Training was organized for the Department’s Staff at the Northern Regional Co-ordinating Council (completed).
OBJECTIVE(S)
- To initiate and employ appropriate measures intended to restore or preserve public buildings or accommodations, including the protection of their environment in a decent and fit for human habitation state.
