Tamale Metro
The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly was established by legislative instrument (L.I. 2068). Currently, it is one of the six Metropolitan Assemblies in the country and the only Metropolis in the five regions of Northern Ghana namely: the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, North East and Savannah regions. Tamale is the Metropolitan Capital as well as the Regional capital of the Northern Region. Sagnarigu Municipal
The Sagnarigu Municipal is one of the 254 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 28 MMDAs in the Northern Region. Sagnarigu Municipal was carved from Tamale and inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 2066. The Municipality lies between latitudes 9º16’ and 9º 34’ North and longitudes 0º 36’ and 0º 57’ West with its Administrative capital Sagnerigu and covers a total land size of 200.4km².
Savelugu Municipal Assembly
The Savelugu Municipal Assembly, which until 15th March 2017 when Nanton District was created was called Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Assembly. It was carved out of the then Western Dagomba District in 1988 under PNDC Law 207. In March 2012, the Assembly was upgraded to a Municipal status under L.I 2071.
The Municipality is located at the northern part of the Northern Region of Ghana. It shares boundaries with West Mamprusi District to the North, Karaga and Nanton Districts to the East, Kumbungu District to the West and Sagnerigu District Assembly to the South. The Municipality has about 81 communities with a lot of the communities concentrated at the southern part. The Municipality also has a total land area of about 2022.6 sq. km.Read more
Gushegu Municipal
The Municipal Capital is located at the North Eastern Corridor of the region and it is bordered by eight other Municipals in the region, namely; Karaga Municipals to the west, Saboba and Chereponi to the east, East Mamprusi and Bunkurugu/Yunyoo to the north, Yendi and Mion to the South. The Municipal has a total land area of approximately 2,674.1 km2. The Municipal has 395 communities, with Gushegu being the capital, which is about 114 km from the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.Read more
Nanumba North Municipality
was upgraded to a Municipal status in March 2018 under LI 2273. It covers an area of 1,986 square kilometres. Yendi Municipal Assembly
The Yendi Municipal Assembly is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 16 MMDAs in the Northern Region. The Yendi Municipal Assembly was established in 1988 by PNDC Law 207, Act 462, and LI 1443 and was elevated to a Municipality in 2007. The administrative capital of the municipality is Yendi.The Municipality is located in the eastern corridor of the Northern Region and lies between Latitude 90 –350 North and 00 –300 West and 00 –150 East.The Municipality is the capital of the Dagbon Kingdom and the seat of the Ya-Na the Over Lord of Dagbon.
