Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Northern Regional Minister, celebrated Eid-Ul-Adha with the Northern Regional Chief Imam, Abdul Salam, at the Tamale Jubilee Park on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
In his address, Hon. Shani disclosed that a total of 2,136 pilgrims were airlifted from Tamale International Airport and 1,864 from Kotoka International Airport to Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, bringing the total number of Ghanaian pilgrims to 4,000.
“Eid-ul-Adha, celebrated yearly by Muslims worldwide, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) obedience to Allah’s (SWT) command to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS). It reminds us of the virtues of patience and obedience during trials,” he said.
He urged prayers for Muslims in conflict areas globally, including Palestine. “The devastating impact of conflict is evident through TV footage showing the destruction of lives and property, leading to untold suffering. These occurrences should serve as a lesson to us as Muslims and Ghanaians,” he stated.
Hon. Shani also addressed the potential for conflict during the upcoming 2024 elections, advising against actions that could provoke violence. He emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
“Indeed, the Northern Region, often labeled as conflict-prone, has been peaceful and is now the most peaceful region in Ghana. I appeal to the good people of the region to unite for a peaceful Election 2024 to protect and preserve the gains of the past eight years,” he concluded.
