The Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), through its Human Resource Department, has commenced its Keep-Fit Club initiative to promote physical fitness, healthy living and the general well-being of staff.
The maiden exercise, held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the forecourt of the NRCC in Tamale, attracted enthusiastic participation from staff members who turned out to engage in physical activities aimed at improving their health and fitness.
The initiative, introduced by the Management of the NRCC through the Human Resource Department, forms part of efforts to prioritise staff welfare, encourage regular physical exercise and foster a healthy and productive workforce within the Council.

The Head of the Human Resource Department, Madam Lantana Kassim, commended staff for taking the initiative seriously and participating in the exercise with a high level of enthusiasm. She expressed satisfaction with the positive response and encouraged staff to sustain their commitment to the club.
Madam Lantana also expressed gratitude to the Management of the NRCC for introducing the initiative, describing it as a positive step towards promoting staff health and well-being. She acknowledged the importance of management support in implementing programmes that improve employees’ welfare and overall working conditions.

The Keep-Fit Club provides staff with an opportunity to incorporate regular physical activity into their lifestyles while taking a break from the demands of their daily administrative responsibilities. The Human Resource Department is expected to coordinate the club’s activities and encourage sustained participation across the various departments and units of the Council.
Regular physical exercise is widely recognised for its health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, increased physical endurance, weight management and reduced risk of certain non-communicable diseases. It can also contribute to stress management, improved mood and enhanced mental alertness.
For staff whose daily responsibilities may involve prolonged sitting and office-based activities, the initiative offers a practical opportunity to remain physically active and develop healthier habits that support their general well-being and professional effectiveness.
Beyond its physical health benefits, the club is expected to strengthen relationships among employees by creating opportunities for interaction and teamwork outside their usual work schedules. Participation by staff from different departments and units also provides a platform for promoting unity, cooperation and a shared sense of belonging within the Council.
The commencement of the club further underscores the importance of integrating employee wellness into institutional management. A healthy workforce is an important asset to any organisation, as improved physical and mental well-being can contribute to staff morale, concentration and effective service delivery.
The enthusiastic participation recorded during the maiden exercise is an encouraging indication of staff interest in the initiative and its potential to become a sustainable component of the Council’s staff-welfare activities. Consistent participation and continued management support will be essential to achieving the club’s objectives.
The NRCC Keep-Fit Club represents a positive step towards building a healthier, more active and cohesive workforce. Through the continued support of Management and the Human Resource Department, the initiative is expected to promote healthy living, strengthen workplace relationships and contribute to improved productivity and effective public service delivery in the Northern Region.
