Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company, visited the Northern Region on Wednesday, 26 March, 2025 to assess the water situation in Tamale and its surrounding areas. This visit comes in response to a request from Ya-Naa Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, to President John Dramani Mahama, to address the water crisis in the region, particularly in Tamale and Yendi.
The water situation in Tamale has been a pressing concern, with the area facing acute water shortages that threaten the lives of thousands. The visit by Mr. Mutawakilu is a step towards finding a solution to this crisis.
During his visit, he interacted with local chiefs and residents, assuring them of the government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the water crisis.
Mutawakilu acknowledged the challenges faced by the region and promised that a timetable for water rationing in Tamale would be implemented to ensure equitable distribution of water to all areas. This move aims to alleviate the water shortages that have plagued the region.
Mr. Damma Mumuni, the Director of Administration at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC), expressed his gratitude to the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company for visiting the region and promptly addressing the water situation in Tamale.
This gesture demonstrates the government’s commitment to resolving the water crisis in the area. The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has been actively engaged with local leaders, including the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II, to address the region’s challenges
