The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has officially handed over a set of logistics to the Regional Directorate of the Information Services Department (ISD) to enhance public communication and the dissemination of government policies across the region.
The items, presented on Thursday, 9th April, 2026, include three information vans, sixteen desktop computers, one laptop, and sixteen routers equipped with MTN SIM cards registered in the name of the ISD. The equipment forms part of a broader government initiative aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of Information Officers within Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Addressing the gathering during the brief ceremony, Hon. Ali Adolf John underscored the critical role of effective communication in governance, noting that access to timely and accurate information is essential for promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in national development.
He explained that the intervention by the Government of Ghana is a strategic effort to bridge communication gaps, particularly in rural and underserved communities, where access to information remains a challenge. According to him, the provision of information vans will significantly improve outreach efforts, enabling Information Officers to engage directly with communities and educate the public on key government policies and programmes.
The Regional Minister further indicated that the computers and internet-enabled routers will enhance the digital capacity of Information Officers, allowing them to efficiently generate, process, and disseminate information in line with modern communication standards.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by Information Officers in the discharge of their duties, especially in terms of logistics, and expressed confidence that the newly provided equipment will greatly improve their performance and visibility across the region.
Hon. Ali Adolf John also emphasized the need for accountability and proper maintenance of the equipment, reminding beneficiaries that the resources are public assets meant to serve the interest of the people. He urged all Information Officers to demonstrate professionalism, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility in the use of the items.
Receiving the items on behalf of the department, Mr. Ahmed Hussein, the Regional Information Officer (RIO) expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Ghana and the Northern Regional Minister for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention. He noted that the logistics would significantly improve the operational efficiency of Information Officers and enable them to better connect with communities, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
He emphasized that the provision of the information vans would enhance outreach efforts through intensified public education campaigns, community sensitization programmes, and direct engagement with citizens at the grassroots level. According to him, the mobility offered by the vans would help bridge the information gap and ensure that government initiatives are well understood by the populace.
Mr. Hussein further highlighted the importance of the desktop computers, laptop, and internet-enabled routers, stating that the tools would strengthen digital communication and modernize information dissemination in line with evolving technological trends. He added that Information Officers would now be better equipped to create and share content in real time, thereby improving public access to credible and timely information.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Information Services Department to professionalism, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of its mandate. He assured that the logistics would be used judiciously and maintained properly to achieve their intended purpose
The initiative is expected to significantly improve communication between government and citizens, increase awareness of development programmes, and strengthen grassroots participation in governance across the Northern Region.
The event was attended by the MCEs for Yendi and Nanumba North, Information Officers, and members of the media, all of whom commended the government for prioritizing information dissemination as a key pillar of development.
