The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council meeting on Tuesday, 5 December, 2023 entreated all stakeholders to endeavor to render their fullest support in every capacity to ensure the realization of the mandate of the Council.
“The effective administration and management of the affairs of the region therefore hinges on our selfless commitment and dedication to translate the decisions and actions we make into workable solutions to the inherent challenges we face as a region and, to tap the various opportunities that abound us,” he said.
The council meeting is a periodic exercise that brings together key actors in Northern region development to review the progress of various activities, projects, and programs implemented in the region. During the meeting, Hon. Shaibu highlighted the issues of education, peace and security, road safety, developmental projects and Water, Sanitation, and hygiene in the Northern Region.
𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
The Minister stressed the importance of monitoring the region’s educational progress, particularly focusing on the 2023 BECE results. He urged stakeholders to evaluate educational standards based on these results, calling upon the Regional Director of Education to provide detailed statistics for further analysis and action.
𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆
Addressing peace and security concerns, Hon. Shaibu urged individuals to prioritize personal and community security. He emphasized the role of community vigilance and support for security agencies in maintaining law and order. Collaboration among Regional Security Councils and Traditional Authorities was emphasized for effective monitoring and prevention of potential threats.
𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆
With the upcoming festive period, the Minister urged collaboration between the National Road Safety Authority, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, and Security Agencies to conduct road safety campaigns. He emphasized the need for all institutions, including traditional and political leaders, to prioritize road safety in their activities to safeguard lives and properties.
𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘀
Highlighting ongoing developmental projects across various sectors, Hon. Shaibu called upon public officials and technocrats to work diligently towards the council’s vision. He emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for socio-economic activities and assured effective monitoring and evaluation of interventions for timely and precise execution.
𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗴𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗲 (𝗪𝗔𝗦𝗛)
Recognizing the criticality of WASH initiatives, the Minister appreciated the collaborative efforts of UNICEF and Development Partners in ensuring safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. He emphasized the significance of these efforts in building healthier and more resilient communities.
Chief Director/RCD, Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku in his remarks harnessed the opportunity to announce that, Karaga District emerges the best district in records management in the region and northern region places second in the country.
The District Chief Executive for Karaga, Hon. Iddris Mohammed Saani received the award on behalf of the Karaga district.
Alhaji Issahaku commended the staff of the Karaga district and urged all district assemblies to take records keeping seriously.
The meeting brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Chiefs, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Presiding Members, the Chief Director/RCD, Regional Economic Planning Officer (REPO), Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDs), Chief Field Officer and Officials of UNICEF, Wash Partners, Regional Heads of Decentralized Department, Staff of the NRCC, and Members of the Media.
The gathering served as a platform for extensive discussions and commitments toward ensuring the region’s progress and well-being across multiple sectors.
