The 44th edition of the Northern Regional Schools and Colleges Annual Inter-Schools Sports Festival was held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale, bringing together students from various schools across the region. This momentous occasion aims to foster sports development, teamwork, and healthy competition among students.
The ceremony was graced by the Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, who was accompanied by a distinguished delegation of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), led by the Tamale Mayor, Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro.
In his keynote address, Hon. Ali Adolf John commended the Regional Director of Education and the Northern Regional Schools and Colleges Sports Federation for their tireless efforts in organizing this spectacular event. He underscored the significance of sports in identifying and nurturing talents, promoting teamwork, and cultivating healthy lifestyles.
The Minister noted that, despite the waning interest in sports events in recent times, the enthusiasm and organization evident this year signal a promising resurgence of the sporting spirit. He urged all stakeholders to capitalize on this momentum to revitalize the excitement and fervor that once defined these events.
Hon. Adolf highlighted the multifaceted benefits of sports, including improved health, entertainment, and financial rewards for outstanding athletes. He emphasized the importance of encouraging students to participate in sports to discover and develop their talents, thereby fostering discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among the youth.
The Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to promoting sports development in the region. He announced that the government is working to reinstate physical education in the educational curriculum and encouraged physical education teachers and coordinators to support this initiative.
Furthermore, the Minister drew the attention of students to the perils of drug abuse and performance-enhancing substances, urging them to resist these temptations and focus on developing their talents through hard work and dedication.
Hon. Adolf declared the 44th edition of the Northern Region Schools and Colleges Annual Inter-Schools Sports Festival duly opened, wishing the participants a thrilling and memorable experience. He urged them to strive for excellence in their respective sports, showcasing their skills and talents to the fullest.
The festival features a diverse range of sports disciplines, including soccer, handball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, and cross-country, promoting sports development, teamwork, and healthy competition among students in the region.
