The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, on Monday, 4th May 2026, joined the Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Junior, to tour selected Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centres across the region as part of efforts to ensure a smooth and credible conduct of the nationwide exercise.
The visit formed part of a broader monitoring initiative aimed at assessing the preparedness of examination centres, the conduct of candidates, and adherence to examination regulations by invigilators and supervisors.
Addressing candidates at the various centres, Hon. Ali Adolf John encouraged them to approach the examination with confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of integrity. He reminded them that the BECE represents a significant milestone in their academic journey and urged them to rely on their hard work rather than resorting to any form of malpractice.

He emphasized that honesty remains the foundation of lasting success, adding that any attempt to cheat would not only undermine their efforts but also jeopardize their future aspirations. The Minister further advised candidates to remain calm, carefully read through questions, and give off their best in all papers.
Interacting with invigilators and supervisors, the Minister commended them for their dedication and professionalism, noting that their role is critical in safeguarding the credibility of the examination process. He urged them to remain vigilant, impartial, and firm in enforcing examination rules while ensuring a supportive environment for candidates.

Hon. Ali Adolf John also used the opportunity to appeal to parents and guardians to provide the necessary emotional support to their wards during the examination period. He cautioned against putting undue pressure on candidates, stressing the importance of encouragement and reassurance to boost their confidence.
The Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Junior, on his part, expressed satisfaction with the general conduct of the examination across the centres visited. He noted that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure a smooth and incident-free process, including effective supervision and strict compliance with guidelines set by the Ghana Education Service.
Mr. Alhassan Alidu Junior disclosed that a total of 37,111 candidates from 808 schools are expected to sit for this yearโs examination at 132 centres across the Northern Region. He explained that out of this figure, 33,329 candidates are from public schools, made up of 17,209 males and 16,120 females, while 3,782 candidates are from private schools, comprising 1,817 males and 1,965 females. The participating schools include 631 public and 177 private institutions.

According to Mr. Alhassan Alidu Junior, the Regional Directorate, in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has put in place adequate measures to ensure a smooth and credible examination process. He noted that 132 supervisors, 130 assistant supervisors, and 1,321 invigilators have been deployed across the 132 examination centres to effectively manage the exercise.
He further advised candidates to strictly adhere to examination regulations and avoid all forms of malpractice, popularly known as โApor.โ Mr. Alhassan Alidu Junior cautioned against engaging with leaked questions or seeking unauthorized assistance, urging candidates instead to uphold integrity and discipline at all times.
The monitoring exercise also allowed the team to interact with centre supervisors and school authorities, who highlighted both successes and minor challenges encountered, all of which were promptly addressed.
Overall, the exercise was conducted in a calm and orderly atmosphere, with candidates observed to be focused and well-prepared.
The Northern Regional Minister reaffirmed governmentโs commitment to improving educational infrastructure and outcomes across the region, noting that quality education remains a key priority in national development.
