The solemn final Adua (funeral rite) of the esteemed late Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, the Honorable Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, took place on Tuesday, the 12th of August, 2025, at the familial residence in Tamale.
This dignified ceremony convened an assembly of distinguished Ministers of state, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Regional Security Council (REGSEC) representatives, traditional chiefs, revered religious leaders, delegates from various political parties, and the general populace.

Eminent religious leaders from the Ambariyya Islamic Institute delivered poignant sermons emphasizing the tenets of faith in Islam, underscoring the imperative of fostering harmony and affection among all people.
The Imams offered heartfelt supplications for the late Honorable Murtala, imploring Allah’s boundless mercy and beseeching that he be granted Jannatul Firdaus, the highest echelon of paradise. Prayers were also extended for Alhaji Limuna and the other individuals who met their untimely demise in the tragic helicopter crash.
The Honorable Ali Adolf John Mburudiba, Northern Regional Minister, conveyed sincere gratitude on behalf of the chiefs and people of the region to all who attended this momentous occasion.
At the funeral ceremony, esteemed Ministers and Members of Parliament including Minister for Education and MP for Tamale South,Hon. Haruna Iddrisu and Former Minister of finance and MP for Karaga, Hon. Adam Mohammed Amin Anta, conveyed poignant reminiscences of their interactions and relationships with the late Honorable Murtala during his lifetime. In tender expressions of bereavement, they articulated a profound sense of missing him, reflecting on the impact of his presence and the void left by his untimely departure.

The Honorable Ibrahim Murtala was a notable Ghanaian politician, serving with distinction as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and as Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He completed his secondary education at Ghana Senior High School in Tamale.
He attained a master’s degree in Development Planning and International Relations and Diplomacy.
Honorable Murtala served with distinction as Deputy Minister(Information and Media Relations, and Trade and Industry) under the administration of President John Mahama.
A devout Muslim, he was married with three children, renowned for his unwavering commitment to peace, integrity, purity of heart, and universal love.
The Honorable Murtala met with a tragic end in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, whilst en route to Obuasi for an official engagement.
