𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗦 𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗢𝗗𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗔𝗗𝗨-𝗚𝗬𝗔𝗠𝗙𝗜’𝗦 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡, 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗖𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧

The Minister made the commendation on Monday, 10 August 2026, when he served as Guest of Honour at the handing-over ceremony for the outgoing Base Commander at the forecourt of the Base Headquarters in Tamale. The ceremony brought together senior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces, members of the Regional Security Council, officers and soldiers, defence civilian staff and other invited guests.

Hon. Ali Adolf John described the transition as an important moment in the life of the Ghana Armed Forces, stressing that military command was not simply about occupying an office but about servant leadership, sacrifice and leaving an institution stronger than it was found. He said the occasion therefore provided an opportunity not only to mark a change in leadership but also to celebrate the remarkable service of Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi.

The Minister noted that although Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi’s tenure in the Northern Region had been relatively brief, his leadership had made a significant impact on the region’s security architecture. He said under his command, the Air Force Base Tamale continued to play a vital role in supporting broader security operations and ensuring that peace and stability remained a priority in the Northern Sector.

Hon. Ali Adolf John particularly praised the cordial and professional relationship between Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi and the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, describing their cooperation as a practical demonstration of unity of purpose and jointness among the security services. He recalled several occasions during major State visits when the two senior military officers worked together at the airport to coordinate security arrangements, saying their mutual respect and cooperation gave him confidence tha t the security of Northern Ghana was in capable hands.

The Minister further acknowledged Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi’s commitment to the Northern Region and the Republic of Ghana, noting that his loyalty and devotion extended beyond his military appointment. He expressed particular appreciation for the support the outgoing Commander provided during the sensitive period following the passing of the late Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, when emotions were high and maintaining peace and stability required professionalism and careful coordination.

According to the Minister, Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi also played an instrumental role in the processes leading to the enskinment of Kampakuya Naa Yakubu as Regent of Dagbon. He said the Commander’s support for lawful authority, peace and stability during the period demonstrated the important role of the Ghana Armed Forces in safeguarding national peace and supporting traditional institutions in times of uncertainty.

The Northern Regional Minister congratulated Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi on his new appointment as Ghana’s Defence Attaché to the Arab Republic of Egypt, with additional responsibilities for Morocco and Lebanon. He expressed confidence that the outgoing Commander’s extensive operational experience, diplomatic tact, sound judgement and interpersonal skills would enable him to represent Ghana with honour and distinction and contribute to strengthening defence cooperation between Ghana and the countries under his responsibility.

Hon. Adolf said the new appointment was a clear recognition of Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi’s competence, dedication and commitment to duty. Quoting a military expression that “the result of hard work is more work,” the Minister humorously told the outgoing Commander that his new assignment meant “more work for you,” while expressing confidence that he would approach the responsibility with the same dedication and professionalism that had characterised his career.

The Minister said Air Commodore Adu-Gyamfi would leave the Northern Region with the respect, admiration and gratitude of the people whose lives and careers he had touched. He explained that the Commander’s legacy would not only be measured by projects completed or operations successfully undertaken, but also by the confidence he inspired, partnerships he strengthened, peace he helped preserve and the people he mentored during his tenure.

Hon. Ali Adolf John also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commander’s family for their sacrifices and support throughout his military career. He said the demands of military service often required significant sacrifices from families and therefore acknowledged their contribution to the Commander’s achievements. He subsequently welcomed the incoming Base Commander and assured him of the fullest cooperation of the Regional Coordinating Council and other stakeholders as he assumed his new responsibilities.

The Minister concluded by wishing Air Commodore Joseph Adu-Gyamfi success in his new diplomatic assignment and prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and protection for him and his family. On behalf of the chiefs and people of the Northern Region, he expressed profound gratitude for the Commander’s dedicated service and called for continued collaboration among the security agencies to safeguard peace, stability and development in the region. He also extended his goodwill to Air Force Base Tamale, the 6 Garrison, the Ghana Armed Forces and the Republic of Ghana.
