The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sagnarigu, Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong, on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has commended Aisha Hospital for its remarkable contribution to specialist healthcare delivery in Northern Ghana following the successful delivery of the first baby through In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) at the Aisha Fertility Centre and the commissioning of a new Dialysis Unit. He made the commendation on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at a ceremony held under the theme βCelebration of Hope and New Beginnings.β
Welcoming guests to the ceremony, the Medical Director of Aisha Hospital, Dr. Sheila Isahaku, described the occasion as a defining moment in the history of the hospital and healthcare delivery in Northern Ghana. She said the two milestones represented not only medical achievements but also the fulfilment of a vision built on sacrifice, dedication, innovation and a commitment to improving the lives of patients.
According to Dr. Sheila, the successful delivery of the first IVF baby through the hospitalβs Fertility Centre was a powerful demonstration that hope could be restored to couples who had endured years of uncertainty, disappointment, tears and prayers in their quest to have children. She said the achievement showed how modern medicine, combined with dedication and faith, could make what once appeared impossible a reality.
Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong described the two achievements as significant milestones not only for Aisha Hospital and the people of Tamale, but also for the Northern Region and Ghana as a whole. He congratulated the Founder, Management, Board and staff of the hospital, noting that the successful IVF delivery and establishment of the Dialysis Unit demonstrated innovation, determination and a strong commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in the region.
He said the birth of the first IVF baby represented a powerful message of hope to couples and families who had experienced years of uncertainty and emotional challenges associated with infertility. According to him, the development demonstrated that advanced reproductive healthcare services were becoming increasingly accessible in Northern Ghana, reducing the need for residents to travel outside the region in search of specialised fertility treatment.
The MCE also described the commissioning of the Dialysis Unit as a significant intervention for patients living with kidney disease. He noted that the facility would expand access to life-saving renal treatment while helping to reduce pressure on existing dialysis services, including those at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. He stressed that such investments had the potential to transform lives, strengthen families and improve the wellbeing of communities.
Hon. Gong reaffirmed governmentβs commitment, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, to strengthening Ghanaβs healthcare system through improved infrastructure, expanded access to specialised medical services and equitable healthcare delivery. He said government remained committed to initiatives that improve maternal and child health, strengthen primary healthcare and promote public-private partnerships in the health sector.
He noted that private healthcare institutions such as Aisha Hospital played an important complementary role in supporting governmentβs efforts to improve healthcare delivery. He therefore encouraged continued collaboration between government, private healthcare providers, development partners, traditional authorities, health professionals and communities to expand access to quality and specialised healthcare services.
Speaking on the achievements of Aisha Hospital, Hon. Abdulai Imoro Gong particularly commended its Founder, affectionately known as Doli-Wura, for his vision, determination and commitment to excellence. He said the milestones being celebrated were a reflection of visionary leadership and the dedication of the hospitalβs management and staff to raising the standard of healthcare in Northern Ghana.
The MCE stressed that government alone could not meet all the healthcare needs of the countryβs growing population and called for stronger partnerships among stakeholders. He said the collective efforts of the public and private sectors would be essential in expanding specialised healthcare services and positioning the Northern Region as a centre of medical excellence.
Hon. Gong expressed particular appreciation for Aisha Hospitalβs ambition to extend and improve specialist healthcare services within the region and beyond. He assured the hospital of the Northern Regional Ministerβs commitment to supporting initiatives and exploring opportunities that would further strengthen healthcare delivery and contribute to Ghanaβs broader health sector development goals.
He also commended the doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, technicians, administrators and other support staff whose professionalism and dedication contributed to the successful delivery of the first IVF baby and the establishment of the Dialysis Unit. He urged them to maintain high standards of professional practice while continuing to put patients at the centre of their work.
The Minister for Education and Member of Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu in his remarks, commended the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aisha Hospital, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria for the remarkable transformation of the facility and its contribution to advancing specialised healthcare delivery in Ghana.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu paid a special tribute to the late Ayisha, the mother of the Founder and CEO of Aisha Hospital, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, acknowledging her contribution and the values she instilled in her son. He said the growth of the hospital and the impact it was making in the health sector reflected a legacy worthy of recognition and celebration.
The Minister for Education further called on doctors, nurses, embryologists, laboratory personnel and other staff of the hospital, particularly those working at the IVF Unit, to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and confidentiality when dealing with patients. He stressed the importance of protecting patientsβ privacy and treating sensitive fertility-related information with the utmost care and discretion.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu subsequently commissioned the newly established Dialysis Unit at Aisha Hospital, formally opening the facility to provide specialised renal care to patients. The commissioning formed part of the activities marking the celebration of the successful delivery of the first baby through In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and underscored the hospitalβs growing capacity to provide advanced and specialised healthcare services.
