On Saturday, August 30, 2025, the Tamale Mayor, Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro, delivered a stirring speech on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John Mburudiba, at the matriculation ceremony for National Apprenticeship Programme beneficiaries at the Jubilee Park in Tamale. The ceremony, attended by esteemed guests, including Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, all the 16 MMDCEs in Northern region, Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency and Traditional rulers, marked a significant milestone in the lives of the apprentices and master craft persons.


The Mayor welcomed all attendees, expressing gratitude for the National Apprenticeship Programme’s potential to make a substantial impact on the lives of the youth in the Northern National Apprenticeship Programme’s potential to make a substantial impact on the lives of the youth in the Northern Region. He congratulated the apprentices and master craft persons on their qualification into the program, emphasizing that this ceremony not only celebrated their admission but also underscored the NDC Government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the youth and addressing unemployment.
Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro highlighted the program’s objectives, which include creating opportunities, bridging the skills gap, and preparing a new generation of skilled professionals to contribute to the growth of the economy. He assured that the National Apprenticeship Programme would provide practical knowledge, technical skills, and entrepreneurial abilities essential for personal advancement and national development.

The Mayor urged the apprentices to aim high, take full advantage of the opportunity, and be determined, disciplined, and hardworking. He encouraged them to be humble and learn from the master craft persons, emphasizing that the knowledge and skills gained would be powerful tools to empower them to succeed. He also emphasized that apprenticeship is not merely about learning a trade but about nurturing innovation, building confidence, and creating pathways for young people to contribute meaningfully to society and the economy.
Hon. Abubakari Adam Takoro called on the master craft persons to provide mentorship and guidance to the apprentices, teaching them the importance of hard work and discipline. He encouraged the apprentices to be shining examples and role models, inspiring other young people to embrace skills training and learn a trade. By doing so, they would not only secure a brighter future for themselves but also help curb the growing canker of drug abuse among the youth.
