The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has reaffirmed governmentβs commitment to strengthening education and youth development, describing it as a cornerstone for national progress.
He made the remarks during a Youth Empowerment and Leadership Engagement Programme held at Vitting Senior High Technical School in Tamale on Friday, 24 April, 2026, where assorted items were presented to students by Farida Mahama with support from the Serenity Community.
The event, which brought together government officials including Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCEs), educators, students, and community stakeholders, was also graced by the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. John Domelo.
In his address, the Regional Minister expressed appreciation to the donors and all partners involved, noting that such interventions play a complementary role in advancing governmentβs efforts to improve educational outcomes across the country.

βEducation remains the backbone of any growing economy and is central to our national development. It is the most powerful tool we have to equip our young people with the knowledge, skills, and values required to contribute meaningfully to society,β he stated.
He emphasized that the government under President John Dramani Mahama continues to prioritize investments in the education sector, recognizing that the future of Ghana is shaped within classrooms.
The Minister commended Farida Mahama and her team for their initiative, describing the donation as a demonstration of the important role individuals, civil society organizations, and non-governmental organizations play in supporting national development.
As part of the ceremony, Farida Mahama formally presented the items to the Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhassan Alidu Junior, who in turn handed them over to the management of Vitting Senior High School for onward distribution to the students.

Hon. Ali Adolf John further called on other youth groups and organizations to emulate the gesture, stressing that such contributions significantly enhance teaching and learning conditions while creating an enabling environment for students to thrive.
Addressing the students, Hon. Ali Adolf John urged them to make good use of the items provided and remain focused on their academic and personal development.
βYou represent the future of this country. It is your responsibility to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to take up leadership roles in the near future,β he advised.
He also cautioned students against engaging in harmful behaviors, particularly the illicit use of drugs such as tramadol, and encouraged them to support peers who may be struggling with substance abuse.

The Minister took the opportunity to commend the schoolβs management and teaching staff for their dedication and commitment to nurturing the next generation, assuring them that government is implementing policy measures to address challenges within the education sector.
The programme formed part of broader efforts to promote youth empowerment, leadership development, and improved educational support systems within the Northern Region.
The donation is expected to enhance academic activities at Vitting Senior High School and further inspire students to strive for excellence in their studies and future endeavors.
