The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has cut sod for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Kuyoli in the Tatale Sanguli District, a flagship project expected to significantly boost local commerce, create jobs, and improve livelihoods in the area.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, also marked the sod-cutting for a modern District Fire Service Station, which will strengthen emergency response systems and enhance public safety across the district. The event brought together key stakeholders including the Member of Parliament for Tatale-Sanguli, Ntibi Ayo Williams, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mary Tagba, district security agencies, traditional authorities, officers of the Ghana National Fire Service, and members of the community.
The projects form part of governmentโ€™s broader agenda to expand critical infrastructure, enhance local economic development, and decentralize essential services across the country.
Welcoming dignitaries and guests, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mary Tagba, described the occasion as historic, noting that the projects mark a major step in addressing long-standing developmental and safety challenges facing the district. She emphasized that the initiatives reflect governmentโ€™s commitment to improving living conditions and promoting inclusive growth.
Hon. Tagba expressed gratitude to government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, for responding to the needs of the district. She noted that the absence of a Fire Service Station has over the years exposed communities to serious risks, with fire outbreaks often resulting in devastating losses due to delayed emergency response.
She explained that the new Fire Service Station will significantly improve the districtโ€™s capacity to respond swiftly to emergencies, safeguard lives and property, and strengthen disaster management systems.
Turning to the 24-hour economy market, the DCE described it as a transformative intervention for traders and the local economy. She observed that many traders, particularly women, have long operated under difficult conditions, including exposure to harsh weather and limited trading hours.
According to her, the new market will provide a structured, secure, and modern trading environment with improved sanitation, storage facilities, and enhanced security. This, she said, will enable continuous commercial activity, increase household incomes, and stimulate economic growth within the district.
Hon. Tagba further stressed that the projects go beyond physical infrastructure, representing opportunities for job creation, economic expansion, and improved livelihoods. She expressed optimism that the interventions will position Tatale-Sanguli as a growing commercial hub in the Northern Region.
She called on residents to take ownership of the projects and support their successful execution, while urging contractors to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe. She also appealed for unity, cooperation, and transparency among all stakeholders, noting that sustainable development requires collective responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, the Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, underscored the importance of the Fire Service Station, describing it as a key milestone in strengthening safety and resilience in the district. He noted that the initiative is not only infrastructural but also aimed at protecting livelihoods and improving disaster preparedness.
He observed that several communities have suffered avoidable losses due to delayed fire response, expressing confidence that the new facility will significantly reduce such incidents. He also highlighted the critical role of the Ghana National Fire Service in fire prevention, rescue operations, and public education on fire safety.
The Minister urged residents to adopt responsible fire safety practices and cooperate with fire officers when the station becomes operational. He also charged the contractor to ensure quality execution and timely completion of the project.
On his part, the Member of Parliament, Ntibi Ayo Williams, described the occasion as a turning point in the districtโ€™s development journey, stating that the projects symbolize a new era of hope, opportunity, and progress for the people of Tatale-Sanguli.
โ€œToday is not just a ceremony; it is a declaration of hope and a new chapter in the development of our district,โ€ he said, highlighting the transformative potential of the 24-hour economy market.
The MP called on residents to support and protect the projects, stressing that development is a shared responsibility. He urged unity among stakeholders and charged contractors to deliver quality work on schedule, assuring the public of transparency and accountability throughout implementation.
The sod-cutting ceremony officially marks the commencement of construction works for both the Fire Service Station and the 24-hour economy market. Upon completion, the projects are expected to enhance safety, stimulate economic activities, and significantly improve the quality of life for residents of Tatale-Sanguli and surrounding communities.
Residents expressed optimism that the initiatives will usher in a new phase of development and firmly position the district as a vibrant economic hub in the Northern Region.
