The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, patriotism, discipline, accountability and hard work as the foundation for building a prosperous and united nation. He stressed that the country’s development agenda could only be sustained when citizens c
omplemented government interventions with strong moral values and responsible civic conduct.
Delivering the keynote address at the 2nd Edition of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day held at Jesus Is the Answer Chapel (Lighthouse Chapel) in Vittin, Tamale, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Minister said the celebration provided an important opportunity for the nation to reflect on God’s goodness while recommitting itself to the values that foster peace, unity and national progress.
The event, held under the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want,” brought together Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, heads of departments, security agencies, religious leaders, traditional authorities, members of the Regional Peace Council, development partners, youth and women’s groups, civil society organisations and members of the public.
Hon. Adolf expressed gratitude to Almighty God for His abundant grace and protection over Ghana and conveyed warm greetings from the Government of the President of the Republic of Ghana to all participants. He noted that the annual national observance had become an important platform for promoting unity, thanksgiving and national reflection.
According to the Minister, although Ghana has made remarkable progress in sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and democratic governance, the nation continues to face challenges that demand not only sound policies but also a deliberate renewal of moral and civic values.
He observed that national transformation begins with personal transformation, emphasizing that roads, schools, hospitals and economic programmes alone cannot build the Ghana citizens aspire to achieve. Rather, he said, the nation must be built on enduring values including honesty, discipline, accountability, respect for one another, patriotism and commitment to the common good.
The Minister challenged citizens to reflect on the values being passed on to future generations, asking whether enough was being done to promote honesty in homes, schools, workplaces and communities. He further urged Ghanaians to safeguard public resources and contribute meaningfully towards national development through responsible citizenship.
Touching on the Northern Region, Hon. Adolf praised the area’s rich cultural heritage, hospitality, communal spirit and deep respect for traditional authority, describing these as invaluable assets that have sustained peace and social cohesion over the years. He encouraged residents to preserve these positive traditions while embracing innovation and development opportunities.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens through investments in agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth employment and social protection programmes. However, he stressed that sustainable development requires active collaboration between government and citizens, adding that corruption, selfishness, ethnic divisions and religious intolerance remain significant obstacles to national progress.
The Regional Minister particularly appealed to the youth to become ambassadors of positive change by embracing excellence, honesty, compassion and peaceful coexistence. He urged them to reject violence, intolerance and every form of behaviour capable of undermining Ghana’s development aspirations.
Hon. Adolf also commended religious leaders for their invaluable contribution towards shaping the moral character of society through prayers, sound teachings and spiritual guidance. He equally paid glowing tribute to traditional authorities across the Northern Region for their continuous efforts in promoting peace, unity and community development, describing their partnership with government as indispensable.
He urged Ghanaians to allow gratitude to inspire greater responsibility by demonstrating their appreciation to God through positive actions, responsible leadership and good neighbourliness. He further called on the nation to continually pray for wisdom for national leaders, opportunities for the youth, prosperity for farmers and entrepreneurs, strength for the security services and lasting peace across every community in Ghana.
Before concluding his address, the Minister expressed profound appreciation to the Local Council of Churches for successfully organising the event. On behalf of the Chiefs and people of the Northern Region as well as the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, he congratulated the organisers for their dedication and commitment in ensuring a successful celebration.
The programme ended with a renewed call for unity, moral renewal and collective responsibility, as participants joined in prayers for the continued peace, stability and prosperity of the Northern Region and Ghana, reaffirming their shared commitment to building the Ghana envisioned under the theme of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day.
