The Nanton District in the Northern Region is poised for a major economic transformation following the official sod-cutting and site handover for the construction of a modern 24-hour Economy Market.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, brought together government officials, Member of Parliament for Nanton, traditional leaders, assembly members, and members of the public to witness the commencement of the much-anticipated project.
Delivering her welcome address, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanton, Hon. Rosina Zenabu Abdul Rahaman, expressed profound gratitude to the government for prioritizing the district in its development agenda. She noted that the project would significantly improve trading activities, create employment opportunities, and enhance livelihoods in the area.

She emphasized that the initiative aligns with efforts to stimulate local economic growth and pledged the Assemblyโs full support to ensure the successful execution of the project.
Performing the sod-cutting ceremony, the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf John, described the project as a strategic intervention under the governmentโs 24-hour economy policy aimed at boosting productivity and expanding economic opportunities across the country.
He indicated that the market, when completed, would serve as a major commercial hub in the district, providing a conducive environment for traders, farmers, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs to operate around the clock.
According to the Minister, the facility is expected to enhance commercial activities, reduce post-harvest losses, generate employmentโparticularly for the youth and womenโand improve internally generated revenue for the District Assembly.
โThis project is a clear demonstration of governmentโs commitment to inclusive development and ensuring that every district benefits from transformative infrastructure,โ he stated.
Hon. Ali Adolf John further called on the people of Nanton to take ownership of the project and support the contractor to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe. He stressed that government would not compromise on standards and urged all stakeholders to cooperate to ensure the timely completion of the project.
He also reiterated governmentโs broader vision of developing the Northern Region through strategic investments in infrastructure, agriculture, trade, and enterprise development.
Traditional authorities and community members present at the event welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism that the market would stimulate economic growth and improve living standards in the district.
The project forms part of a broader national agenda to promote a 24-hour economy by providing critical infrastructure that supports continuous business operations and enhances productivity.
Construction is expected to commence immediately following the official handover of the site, with stakeholders hopeful that the project will be completed on schedule to serve the people of Nanton and its surrounding communities.
